My Day at SecurityPal

Aachal Dhakal | Hello everyone! I am Aachal Dhakal, a 2nd-year student at The Westminster College pursuing a BSc (Hons) in Cyber Security and Forensics. Let me share with you the wonderful experience that my classmates and I had on March 12, 2025, when we visited SecurityPal in Baluwatar- a day full of knowledge, insights, and a look into the actual world of cyber security!
The day started bright and early. We hopped on the bus at 9:30 AM, buzzing with full zeal and anticipation to see what life was like inside a professional cyber security firm. When we reached SecurityPal at 10:00 AM, the friendly greeting we received instantly set the tone for the day.
Stepping into the Cyber World:
One of the coolest parts was how we were paired with SecurityPal team members in groups of five. This personalized approach made the experience so much more engaging. We started with an office tour, and let me tell you, it was fascinating! It was enlightening to observe the professionals at work, comprehend their collaborative setting, and observe the unwavering emphasis on security.
In a fast-paced setting where everyone was preoccupied with their tasks, it was about problem-solving and teamwork rather than just computers and code. I felt like I was stepping into a real-life cyber thriller!

Learning from the Pros:
At 10:45 AM, we gathered for a presentation by the SecurityPal team. Hearing their journey and learning about the company's growth in the cyber security sector was truly inspiring. They discussed important facets of cyber security, such as new developments in the field, which struck a deep chord.
The Q&A session that followed was incredibly valuable. I had an incredible experience during my visit to SecurityPal! The cybersecurity session was highly engaging, and when I inquired about what they prioritize in new hires, I was pleasantly surprised by their response. They emphasized the importance of good human behavior, respect, and knowledge. It was a great reminder that while technical skills are important, ethics and attitude are equally crucial.
Networking and Insights:
The tea and coffee session from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM was the perfect way to wrap up the visit. It was a relaxed atmosphere where we could chat with the professionals in smaller groups. We talked about various career paths, industry challenges, and future trends. It was fantastic to hear their personal experiences and receive their advice.
My friends and I also asked how they got their positions and about the hiring criteria. They mentioned that vacancies open every 2 to 3 months, and we also discussed our lifestyles. Additionally, I gained some valuable insights about potential internships!

A Student's Perspective:
This visit had a profound effect on me as a student who is passionate about cyber security. It allowed us to see what it is actually like to work in this field, bridging the gap between theory and practice. It was more than just a tour; it was an immersive educational opportunity that reaffirmed my interest in forensics and cybersecurity.
These industry visits are a great way for Westminster College to highlight its emphasis on experiential learning. In addition to studying from textbooks, we are also acquiring practical knowledge that will help us in our future employment. I was more driven and self-assured than ever when I left SecurityPal.
I am incredibly appreciative of this chance and eager for more enlightening encounters. Keep checking back for more information about our upcoming cybersecurity adventures!
